The Sustainability Practitioners Internship Program(SPIP) is a multidimensional, capacity-building initiative designed to train, certify and advance sustainability professionals in Canada's screen-based entertainment industry to have the most modern, and comprehensive skills in sustainability in film and television production.
Build the knowledge, credentials, and network to lead low-carbon production, from set to system.

Shortlisted candidates move to an interview.
Shortlisted candidates complete a short assignment.
Cohort selection is made by a small team of adjudicators.

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS:
2 Phases | One Growing Network
Phase 1: Fundamentals
October - December 2026
Certified participants who have completed Phase 1 are added to the national directory and promoted to producers, studios, and coordinators across Canada.
Phase 2: Advanced Learning & Production Placements
February - August 2027
Fall 2026
Build foundational literacy in sustainability frameworks, production practices, tools and guides, low carbon production, communications, and Canadian Industry standards.
SPIP Cohort 2 begins in October 2026 (Phase 1) through to Spring/Summer 2027 (Phase 2), with participants added to the national SPIP Directory once Phase 1 certification is complete.
The program consists of approximately 6 X 90 mins Saturday virtual learning sessions per phase.
Program also includes: SPIP directory, participation at SPF26 Horizons in Bloom, and SPF Virtual and the placement program.
Applicants may commit to Phase 1 alone, or to Phase 1 and Phase 2 together; completion of Phase 1 is required before advancing to Phase 2. Priority may be given to applicants who are committed to both phases of the program.
Winter/Spring 2027 - Advanced Learning
Advanced Micro Sessions with homework and prep, plus Sustainability Saturdays community meetings for the cohort and alumni. 1x/month
Summer 2027 - Placements
In the field work experience, job shadowing, internship placements.
WHO IS THIS FOR:
Whether you're an experienced producer who wants to formalize what you've been doing instinctively, or an entertainment professional pivoting toward a sustainability role for the first time, SPIP will equip you with the necessary tools to build your green career pathway.
Participants are required to complete the following free virtual training during Phase 1:
*Recommended for French-speaking participants and/or those residing in Quebec.
