The pilot program was activated in St John’s, Newfoundland, on April 12th, with ongoing on-set placements throughout the 2024 production season.

SPF Global Flagship Events

Established in 2016, the Sustainable Production Forum (SPF) is a global hybrid conference connecting people and ideas to advance sustainable practices in the entertainment industry.

With a local-to-global model, SPF hosts full-day events in shooting hubs worldwide, offering tailored sustainable solutions to culture workers. The conference is open to anyone seeking to improve the motion picture industry’s sustainability and decarbonization efforts.

SPF emphasizes industry-specific, experiential knowledge sharing, combined with immersive programming that inspires action and innovation.

Sustainability Practitioners Internship Program

Working Groups

Inspired by the SPF21 session Union & Guilds Rally for People & Planet and driven by a shared commitment to create greater impact, this group was established in the fall of 2022. Originally known as Radical Collaboration, the members have since met regularly to pursue and implement their goals.

In 2024 a new directory was launched on the website with sustainability and green committee contacts. In December 2024 an open call for new members was sent out to local chapters of signatory national unions, guilds and trade associations, and received new members immediately.

The tuition-free program designed to train, certify, and prepare the next generation of sustainability leaders in film, television, and digital media. This program equips participants with a modern, comprehensive, and integrated approach to sustainability and decarbonization in the screen industries.

The year-round workshops empowers industry professionals to adopt sustainable practices. Past sessions include Carbon Calculation, The Climate Writing Toolkit, and Greening Your Production, alongside collaborations with students, film festivals, and industry leaders driving green transformation.
